Project Description:

Sureway was subcontracted for Stages 1 & 2 of the Northeast Anthony Henday. The project included: construction of 27 km of 6 and 8 lane divided roadway, construction of 9 interchanges, 2 road fly-over, 8 rail crossings, construction of 2 bridges crossing the North Saskatchewan River and earthwork activities for 46 bridge structures.

The scope of work included: bulk earthworks including over 7,000,000 m3 of excavation, subgrade preparation, road, ramp, interchange and abutment construction, installation of 6 km of drainage pipe, underground utility relocation and construction, multiple utility protection and crossings, traffic detour construction and removal.

This project spanned greenfield and brownfield areas, as such Sureway worked with landowners and businesses to inform and update on the project, coordinate access requirements, minimize disruptions and ensure that stakeholder concerns were addressed. Sureway participated in design trouble shooting with JV partners for addressing and mitigating concerns. Sureway forecasted earthwork volumes and planned borrow locations to achieve earthwork balances, in coordination with the design engineer (AECOM). Sureway worked in conjunction with multiple contractors, each completing diverse scopes of work, such as bridge piling, utility relocations, bridge girders erection, MSE walls. Sureway worked in close collaboration with WSP (formerly MMM) on designing all underground utilities relocations. Sureway performed a key role in helping to ensure our scope of work for earthworks and drainage was efficient while also accommodating and planning the other contractor work scopes.
