Canexus NATO Terminal Expansion

Project Description:

Sureway commenced work on a 240-acre greenfield project, through its development into a rail storage and loading facility. Our team initially constructed rail bed tie-ins for both the CNR and CPR main lines. Next, we built roads around the interior of the property, along with a complete storage tanker yard. The local creek had to be diverted to maintain drainage throughout the project. For the interior, we completed service roads, two 40-metre diameter tank pads, a firewater tank pad, and grading for all the piling and piping areas. We installed an underground firewater line, along with an HDPE-lined storm pond with all the required precast structures.

In total, Sureway completed 1,500,000 m3 of earthworks, 170,000 MT of sub-ballast, 125,000 MT of road crush, 250,000 m2 of geotextile, and tank foundation construction (built in winter with 1,700 m3 of cellular concrete and 1,100 m3 of reinforced concrete). We also provided additional labour and equipment assistance for the other contractors on site.
